The changing ground meant 16 horses were withdrawn, leaving slightly smaller fields than expected with plenty of close finishes and only two favourite winners.
The 3:35 saw apprentice jockey George Wood win on Prize Money (an ironic name as it was in the money). Soldier In Action was quick away from the start and soon took hold of the race, 4 furlongs out many of the horses who had been held up in midfield made headway. These horses included Prize Money, Erik The Red, Cape Cova and William Hunter who were all battling for the lead. Eric The Red with one furlong to go was still boxed in and had no space to switch, eventually he was switched when a gap appeared and he chased to make up the distance between himself and Prize Money. Prize Money just kept to his task, beating Eric The Red by 3/4 of a length. In third place was Cape Cova who seemed one paced.
The final race had Sir Billy Wright leading for most of the race with Steel Train, Winklemann and Shouranour behind giving chase. With one furlong to go Steel Train took the lead, Briyouni made headway and Twin Appeal was switched right to move up the field. However Streel Train ridden by Shelley Birkett, trained by David O'Meara, stayed on well with no competition, winning by two lengths. Briyouni finished second not giving much challenge to Steel Train and Twin Appeal stayed on to finish third.

Redcar Races
An eight race card, made it a long day. Only one of the winners was favourite.
The 2:20 had two non-runners. Angel Palanas, the favourite led from the start with the rest chasing. Jorvik Prince was held up by Sam James, two furlongs out he started to make headway along with Dusty Bin. One furlong out Jorvik Price started to hang badly to the left keeping on at the same pace but Dusty Bin took the lead, passing Angel Palanas who kept on at the same pace. Dusty Bin, trained by Kevin Ryan won by 2 1/4 lengths. Kevin Ryan had 2 winners at this meeting and a third.
In the 3:25 Miningrocks, from a poor draw, took a keen hold, quickly being switched to the left rail. Ger O'Neill kept extending the distance between himself and Ronya, ridden by Dale Swift, who gave chase. Over three furlongs out Devious Spirit, who had been in mid division, had a change of pace moving up the field. With one furlong to go Ronya found something extra that Miningrocks and Devious Spirit lacked. Ronya beat Devious Spirit who finished second by 1 3/4 lengths and Miningrocks by 4 1/2 lengths. These three horses were well clear of the rest of the field.
This was a selling stake. The winner, Ronya, was auctioned but not claimed. Devious Spirit was claimed by Iain Jardine for £6000.
I'm not sure when my next update will be but I will keep my twitter updated.

Doncaster Races
There was a high class of racing yesterday, with tricky fields and great finishes. A day when there were no favourite winners.
The first race with its huge field created some problems for the punters, with the favourite finishing 17th, Mysterial under jockey Phil Dennis took a quick lead just ahead of Ready, ridden by apprentice jockey of the year Josephine Gordon. However coming into the final 3 furlongs horses, who had been held up, towards the back of this large field started making headway. Laurence and Banditry two horses who managed to give chase were joined one furlong out by American Artist. With one furlong to go and four horses in contention, the slightly hampered Banditry was beaten by a head by Laurence trained by Luca Cumani. American Artist was third and Sennockian Star fourth, the first four horses were reasonably clear of the rest of the field.
After the first race the going officially changed from good to good to soft.
The big race of the day (a class one), was very difficult, obviously all the horses had potential to win. Rivet, trained by William Haggas, set the pace, all other horses closely grouped giving chase. The favourite Yucatan was held up and tried to make headway 3 furlong out as did many others. Yet Rivet was too far clear and was allowed to quicken his pace eventually been ridden well clear by 1 3/4 lengths. The field was strung out. I personally found Yucatan and The Anvil very disappointing. The Anvil was never really in the running and weakened with two furlongs to go, a contrast from the last run at Newmarket where he finished third.
Thanks to Josephine Gordon for having a selfie with me. Next update will be after the meeting on Monday 24th October at Redcar.

Redcar Races
Unfortunately the day involved a slightly injured jockey, the realisation that winter will soon be upon us and a super cute selfie with Jim Crowley.
The 3:15 created the opportunity for problems and much competition due to such a big field. With all horses so close together it resulted in positions changing rapidly. Two furlongs out was a big milestone for 2 reasons, the front of the group had Wicked Powell taking charge of the race and Whirl Me Round making progress up the field. At the back of the field, regrettably, Kieran O'Neill became unseated then sadly trampled by Outfox. Luckily O'Neill was fine and able to ride in the next race as he had no serious injuries. Meanwhile at the front of the race it was close between Wicked Powell, Whirl Me Around, Mazyoun and The Wagon Wheel. First place going to Wicked Powell by a neck, Second Whirl Me Around and a dead heat for third between Mazyoun and The Wagon Wheel.
The 3:30 had the trackers coming out on top after having Convey leading for most of the race with the rest of the field giving chase. Two furlong out Convey was put under pressure by Certificate who came storming along one furlong out, the favourite Latharnach ridden by James Doyle was driven clear and swiftly kept on beating Certificate into second place by 1/2 a length.
Father Bertie finished well having made all, after being placed frequently from his last few runs. The 4:25 produced success for jockey David Allan and trainer Tim Easterby.
Thanks Jim Crowley for the selfie, taking my total to 49 selfies now.

Catterick races
A day filled with great weather, slightly sickly ice cream and fab racing. Even with amazing racing all over the country there was a big turn out. To make the day even more memorable there was a double on the card for Silvestre De Sousa.
In the 4:10 Be Perfect, ridden by James Sullivan, clearly had a game plan and knew how good the horse he was ridding was. He broke well from the stalls and soon took the lead, eventually setting mid-division behind the leader Dominada. He starting to make head way, over 4 furlongs out it was clear he had plenty to give, cruising home with ease and driven clear. No other horse finished in contention, Dew Pond a Tim Easterby trained horse was beaten by 2 and a half lengths.
The 5:55 had division one of the Book now for Saturday 15th October Handicap, with a close battle between Desire and Coolcalmcollected. The favourite was the ride of Silvestre De Sousa who quickly appeared in the lead and was driven clear seeming to make an effort to win until Desire started to give chase and 1 furlong out managed to start challenging the leader. Desire had plenty in hand but Coolcalmcollected looked spent, resulting in a photo finish for first. Desire won by a head to Coolcalmcollected with Napoleon Solo in third. I believe that if Silvestre De Sousa hadn't have gone so fast early on then the outcome may have been different.
Thank you to George Chaloner for the selfie.

Newcastle races
A day with only one favourite winner and a double on the card for Sam James.
The 2:25 had a great ride from Adam McNamara on Lotara which was held up in the rear, the field clearly had leaders and trackers, with Corridor Kid and Redalani leading. As it came to one furlong out Lotara, Shine Likeadiamond and Cool Angel made head way. In the final 75 yards Lotara had something that the other horses didn't and managed to hold onto a strong lead, winning by one length.
The 3:30 had Tinsel Town go quite far clear of the rest of the field, everyone else closely grouped together, the field travelled well. Two horses that were not far off the pace were Tyrannical and Masterson which started going forward over three furlongs out but Masterson carried on smoothly easily extending the lead at one furlong out. Judith Gardenier who was held up in the rear made up plenty of ground with a fast turn of pace however Masterson was too far ahead to catch and went on to win by two lengths, Judith Gardenier was second and Tyrannical was third.
Thankyou to the jockeys who I had selfies with Adam McNamara, Graham Gibbons, Jason Hart, Megan Nicholls, Dougie Costello and Patrick Mathers. This takes my selfie collection up to 47! Hopefully I will be able to get a selfie with William Buick at York.

Beverley Races
The 3:45 had the joint favourites Seamster and Sandra's Secret batting it out towards the end. In the early stages Sandra's Secret was quickly away and always near the front, it was being tracked by Seamster and Flicka's Boy with Socialites Red prominent, as the fight began in the final furlong between the two favourites Sandra's Secret was easily driven clear by 1/2 a length. It seems Seamster couldn't continue his winning streak after his win at Catterick earlier in the week.
Miningrocks keeps rocking up. In the last race, the Tom O'Ryan memorial race, jockey Ger O'Neill was an incontestable winner having a clear exit from the starting gates, he soon took the lead, Ger kept extending his lead on the Declan Carroll trained 4 year old while the rest of the field battle for positions amongst themselves, coming round the last bend leading 6 and a half lengths it was clear that Miningrocks couldn't be caught. Jockey Ger O'Neill managed to beat the rest of the field by nine lengths. As said in a previous post this jockey certainly is one to watch. Ingleby Spring finished in second and Paddy's Rock in third. This win for Miningrocks is just after his win at Ayr.
Despite the great day a dampener was put on it by the stormy weather and the frequent torrential downpours, this still didn't stop the ice cream van from making numerous sales (sadly for me I didn't have time to get one after the last race as they packed up and left for the day).

Catterick racecourse- family day
A scorching day filled with family fun, ice-cream vouchers and a double for Daniel Tudhope.
The 2:50 had An Fear Ciuin leading the whole way, making the rest all track and chase, making his presence be known. As the race progressed it became clear that he couldn't be caught even though Arthurs Secret tried creeping closer, with two furlongs out An Fear Ciuin kept on strongly and ran clear by 1 length.
The fourth race had a easy win for the favourite Baron Bolt which bolted up, for most of the race he was help up in the rear along with Like No Other, as the race went into the closing stages he was pushed by P J McDonald and when he was asked soon started making head way, comfortably driven clear. Second was Like No Other and third was Hijran which only kept on at the same pace.
It's a sad week for racing as Tom O' Ryan sadly passed away after a battle with lung cancer, he will be missed greatly. He was a fantastic influence pushing on the young jockeys and supporting the older ones. Tom's great writing style and presence will be a tough position to try fill. I will always remember the selfie I had with him, when I asked he simply replied, 'of course as long as you get my flat cap in'. This is a tremendous loss for the world of racing. Rest in peace Tom.

Pontefract family day
The family day was fully of fun activities including rides, face painting and watching the racing.
The second race, was controlled and led by Mysterial, however this was only until two furlongs out when they came up the final straight he was quickly overtaken. Regal Monarch, the Mark Johnson trained favourite was always tracking along with Plane Song. When the race was in its final furlong Regal Monarch and Mainstream both kept on, the winner Regal Monarch who had previously won by seven lengths at Newmarket had plenty to give. This is a horse to watch in the future! Mainstream, a horse owned and bred by the Queen finished second by a length.
A very interesting race was the 3:15 as it clearly seemed that Rocktherunway, the favourite, had got the race over two furlongs out, yet Another Lincolnday made a surprising challenge when starting to go clear. Riptide who had been held up in the rear, started to move up the field, then over 1 furlong out began to chase, this gave the race an intersting finish as the battle between Another Lincolnday and the unlikely Riptide held everyone in suspense. In the end Riptide didn't quite manage to beat Another Lincolnday who won by 1/2 a length.

Catterick Ladies Day
With plenty of entertainment after the bucks fizz was given out on entry and a good level of racing the night meeting was soon in full swing, the Jazz band kept spirits high.
The first race was an amateur riders race had Aldreth taking charge for most of it, with Zamoyski and Russian Royale chasing him, the rest of the field not far behind apart from Neuf Des Coeurs however when it got to six furlongs out it started making headway as the five year old couldn't get a clear run jockey, Mr B Lynn had to switch him. Approaching the final furlong Neuf Des Coeurs managed to keep his lead, going on to win by 1 3/4 lengths, the second horse Cliff Face (the favourite) got hindered and boxed the whole way round, the outcome could have been different if he had given more in the final furlong.
The Oops A Daisy Florists Selling Stake had a tiny field of four horses because two runners were pulled before the meeting. This race had Smiley Riley leading but over three furlong out two horses, Bismarck The Flyer and Forster Square who had been tracking the leader soon battled, however Amy Gardener rallied in the final furlong resulting in a finish of a neck between first and second. The winner, Bismarck The Flyer has been in good form over his past few runs usually being placed. Amy Gardener was just unlucky in the race and was continuously prominent.
Next update will be on the family day at Pontefract on Sunday.

Ayr races
With good to soft, good in places ground, and a whole day of changeable weather it was a challenging meeting. Unfortunately Ayr didn't have its usual ice cream van. ( it was a bit of a pain I couldn't get an ice cream, I always enjoy it)!!!!
In the 3 O'clock race it was a tight bunch of the field, and in the closing stages many horses had to chase. Character Onesie was prominent and the favourite Tadaany ridden by Daniel Tudhope led and in the end was driven clear by 3/4 of a length, Character Onesie in the end finished second. The horse in third Mustaqbal, a Michael Dods trained four year old after being slowly away took a while to get its stride, if he hadn't of continuously got boxed and got a clearer run maybe the race would have had a different outcome.
The last race on the card had a great ride by apprentice Ger O'Neill (read his interview) on Miningrocks for boss Declan Carroll, he led the whole way round not ever being contested by the rest of the field, in the final furlong it had him drifting a fair amount also him jinxing a bit. However Ger easily managed to keep Miningrocks on to win by 1 3/4 lengths. This takes Ger's win total to 5 out of 33 runs. The favourite Dea Dia that travelled from Ireland finished 3rd.

Interview with Ger O'Neill
Apprentice jockey Ger O'Neill is a seven pound claim for Declan Carroll
Ger Charles O'Neill loves horse due to his dad, from speaking to Ger you can get an understanding of how important his dad has been in his career. His dad got him his first job riding out at Jim Bolger then he moved to Johnny Murtagh, this lasted six months before his boss decided to ring up John Quinn and send Ger to England.
The usual conversationalist when asked about his first winner on Pull the Plug for boss Declan Carroll was speechless, the feeling was indescribable and amazing, he had the greatest struggle putting it into words. He has lots of goals and knows where he wants his future to go and is surely someone to keep your eye on. His next ride is on Save The Bees at Beverley, a horse which he has won on twice before.
Ger is adamant that being a jockey is the only thing he could do and would never want to be anything else however if being a jockey doesn't quite work out, you may well find him either in aisle number two or at the checkout at Lidl.

Catterick races- salute our heroes family day
A family day to remember! With good to firm ground many horses were non-runners, but the favourites didn't fair so well only winning three of the eight races.
The fourth race had a marginal win by favourite Project Bluebook ridden by Jason Hart and trained by John Quinn, the three year old looked as if he was going to get beaten by Tartan Bute which niggled and chased throughout the race. Project Bluebook tracked the leaders and 1 furlong out challenged and soon led, with the others giving chase. The close fighting finish between Project Bluebook and Tartan Blue left the rest of the field far behind with a 4 1/2 length distance between second and third.
In the 4:45 race Monjeni went very quick from the start and took the lead, he had many horses tracking him but went too fast. Lightning Steps the 66/1 longshot was always just behind the leaders and over 1 furlong out began to move up the field, as he took a prominent lead and was driven clear of the rest. Lightning Steps went on to win by 3 1/2 lengths, David Allan rode this winner well and his fall at the end of the race was bordering on gymnastics.
Catterick was a good meeting with interesting racing. Thanks to Josh Doyle and Tom Eaves, who happily complied to having a selfie with me.

Chester Racecourse
The 3:15 feature race had last years winner Eastern Impact, Danzeno and Hillbilly Boy along with the rest of the field battling for the lead. Hillbilly Boy managed to hold his lead throughout even when pressured by Danzeno. Hillbilly Boy won by half a length, Danzeno second and Eastern Impact third. The rest of the field weren't far behind.
The 4:25 had only three horses in the field, one was withdrawn at the start. It appeared as though the joint favourite Lonely The Brave was going to have an easy win when leading the whole way only to be closely chased by the other favourite Super Julius. The horse in the rear of the field, Leontes ridden by Oisin Murphy managed to take the lead and went on to win well by 4 1/2 lengths and looked like it could have gone on further.
Thank you to Richard Kingscote and Stevie Donohoe for letting me have a selfie with them. Next update will be on the meeting on the 2nd of August at Catterick.

Thirsk Races
It was a difficult card, the day had many small fields and lots of non-runners. On this card four of the seven winners were favourites.
The first a seller had Bismarck The Flyer tracking the leader, and eventually battling London Grammar for the lead, however when Ted Durcan pushed Bismarck The Flyer he took the lead and won by 1 3/4 lengths. The winner was claimed by Ollie Pears for six and a half thousand pounds. London Grammar was unlucky as he has been knocking on the door for his past few runs, only being beaten by a short distance 10 days previous.
The 4:40 had an easy win for Rachel Richardson who gave High On Light a great ride, this horse ended up favourite and won by 5 lengths after tracking the leaders, High On Light soon over took the rest of the field. Becky The Thatcher finished second and came strongly through the horses towards the end but was mid-division for most of the race. The filly had no chance at beating High on Light.
The next update will be on the meeting at Chester on the 31st of July.
Redcar races
Such a great day with amazing racing. There was only one
favourite winner.
The 3:30 offered an exciting race, and well done to trainer
Declan Carroll and Jockey Ger O’Neill who won on Mysterial who led most of the
way round only contended at one stage by Livella Fella ridden by Philip Makin. Hopefully next time Ger won’t drop
his whip. The 4:40 race had all the horses closely grouped together. The race was very scrappy with only short distances between them all, Sugar Town the winner ridden by Nathan Evans just edged it with a photo for second place between 3 horses!
Congratulations to Miss Easterby who rode the winner in the last, the amateur riders handicap.
She patiently kept pushing Broctune Papa Gio as he approached the finish post, she took the lead and easily held it without much competition.
Redcar had a wonderful meeting, one which I was happy to be at.
Interview with Phil Dennis
Phil Dennis, 20 year old apprentice in Michael Dods yard. (5
pound claim)
Apprentice Jockey Phil Dennis has been involved with horses from an early age. His parents having owned horses, and then later him having a pony. As a similarity to
many other jockeys Phil started in Pony races, eventually progressing to horses
and his career spiralling out from there.Phil’s biggest influences are his parents who have been very supportive and helped him make some choices in his career so far. I think Phils parents should be thanked as they have helped produce a great jockey who has a bright future.
When Phil isn't riding you'll find him playing a round of golf with his mates off his 19 handicap after which he'll enjoy some steak and chips and maybe a cheeky nandos.
Uptil now Phil has rode 26 winners on turf and 8 winners on all weather. His next rides are on Saturday night on Fools Dream and Minningrocks at Hamilton, I'm sure he will ride well.

Beverley Family Fun day- 26th July
A lovely day of racing with plenty of entertainment, not just racing but a mini-theme park and disco dome.
The first race was a selling stake, the horse called Chauvelin, ridden by Connor Beasley that came through the others and went on to win beating Impeccability by a furlong. The winner after a bidding war from the start of four thousand pounds finished was sold to N Tinkler for six and a half thousand pounds, the rest of the horses in this race weren't claimed.
The 3:20 race it was very close between all, eventhough this is to be expected with sprint races, it created lots of interesting surprises the favourite finished last, the winner by only half a length was Bond Bombshell trained by David O'Meara. Another unusual aspect of this race was Burtonwood's
jockey Kieran Schofield lost his stirrups and ran the race without, soon after finishing third, he tumbled off the horse.

Last Day of Racing in Yorkshire- Pontefract
A fantastic end to a great week of racing in Yorkshire. The meeting had lots of challenging races with many close calls and photo finishes.
The first race offered a competitive finish between Hemmingway and Peach Pavlova in which Hemmingway won by a nose, this was a photo finish and one I wouldn't have liked to call. Hemmingway tracked the leaders then soon over took the rest of the field. The favourite Savannah's Dream, ridden by Daniel Tudhope finished third and was 1 1/2 lengths behind the leaders.
All the horses that went to the front, stayed at the front and most eventually went on to win. This is exactly what happened in the 3:25 with Save The Bees, ridden by the seven pound claimer Ger O' Neill, he eventually went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths, congratulations to owner Steve Ryan and trainer Declan Carroll. This was Save The Bees' tenth win.
It was a family day, there was a fair, bouncy castle and face paint. Also from New Beginnings a charity which rehomes horses, 2 inside out horses with painted on skeletons and internal organs that were brightly coloured and fun for kids to look at.
Next update is the meeting at Beverley on the 26th of July. In the near future there will be interviews with up and coming jockeys such as Phil Dennis.

York race course
A great day, along with amazing music from the Kaiser Chiefs. The meeting had six races all showing lots of potential and close calls between many.
The 7:30 race which was the feature race of the evening was won by Diploma, Ted Durcan was wearing the Queens colours, after being ridden along just behind the leaders, when it came to being two furlongs out she began to lead, this race was a reasonably easy win for Diploma who seems to like it at York as she is a course and distance winner. Second was Fireglow who lost out by three and a quarter lengths and carried on chasing the winner.
Once the evening of racing had finished the Kaiser Chiefs started to play going from older hits to newer songs. Ricky Wilson quickly managed to get the crowd on his side and made sure everyone had an enjoyable time and very rapidly had the place bouncing.
The Corrs are playing York after today's racing, hopefully they will be as successful as the Kaiser Chiefs in front of 38 thousand sell out crowd.

Catterick races- summer festival
A day of interesting racing, difficult weather. Also a day for the favourites as six out of the eight races were won by favourites. The card also had one selling stake and one claiming stake.
The second race at 2:30 was a selling stake, this brought about a close race between Racemaker and London Grammar, in which Racemaker just edged it by a short distance, the distances between the rest being of a larger margin. After a long bidding battle between original owner Mich Channon and Andy Crook, the auctioneer flitting between the two, Mr Crook managed to buy the horse for ten thousand pound. Racemaker looks like it may have a great future in racing and should be one to watch. London Grammar was also claimed for seven thousand pound.
After the weather constantly flickering between glorious sunshine and threatening heavy rain showers, the 3:30 claiming stakes created an intriguing race. In the parade ring My Specialbru had been fighting with the handler and when the jockey, Connor Beasley tried to mount the horse, he only managed to stay seated briefly, however the second mount was more successful. As the horse got closer to the stalls he got more and more skittish, as the stall handlers tried to place him in the starting stalls, the gelding bucked and reared making it impossible to be placed in the stalls, therefore it was declared a non-runner. Eventually the race offered great competition which was won by Paul Mulrennan on Just Be Lucky, the second horse, Smart Mover was very unlucky as it was only beaten by a head.
Other components of the day include a bouncy castle and play area for young kids, continuation of the "you've been snapped' photos and the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery with military planes and helicopters which flew overhead. This was another fab day of racing in Yorkshire the next meeting is Doncaster on the 21st of July.
Photos will be added later

Beverley Races
A evening of fantastic weather, music and racing. Throughout the evening there was a constant stream of interesting music and some even more fabulous dancing.
The Rio birds |
from flowers to unique and detailed patterns (spray glitter will always have a positive reception). The band kept a lively atmosphere along with the dancing show girls, all looking like they should be in Rio since this was a Carnival themed race day.
The meeting had seven races on the card, all with hard to pick winners. The second race, had jockey Jordan Vaughan on Piccolino, bucking and soon Jordan Vaughan was rolling on the ground after Piccolino had been bucking and rearing in the parade ring, fortunately Vaughan is okay and was able to ride a second in the last race. However the clear winner was the Richard Fahey trained favourite The Wagon Wheel, this was a competitive race and The Wagon Wheel was closely followed by Broadhaven Honey.
Congratulations to owner David Tate having a winner in the last race, trained by Tracey Waggott which absolutely charged home, well done on your second winner in two days.
Due to the constant great music, fab weather and amazing atmosphere with some interesting and fun sights, it led to a memorable race meeting at Beverley. What a great continuation to the racing week in Yorkshire. Next meeting is Catterick on Wednesday the 20th of July.
If you go to the racing week in Yorkshire Facebook or Twitter page you can see some of the pics titled 'you've been snapped' and see all the upcoming fun at other meetings. You can also see some of
